CQ Jiangbei Airport Invests 20 Billion For Eastern Terminal Building

To build a national gateway airport, Chongqing will invest 20 billion for the construction of the Eastern Terminal Building(ETB) of Jiangbei International Airport. Yesterday, the 63rd Executive Meeting of the Municipal Government officially approved the design proposal of T3a Terminal Building, core project of ETB. According to Scheme B, formed through international bidding, the building likes a silver grey God Bird flapping its wings, whose lines are wholly fluent and modern. This design is concert with current Western Terminal Building (WTB).

According to 2040 Development Planning of Jiangbei International Airport, the parallel layout of airport flight zone consists of four runways in two sets. The ETB Area is situated between the second and the third runway, forming a pattern based on ETB and supplemented by WTB. After the construction is finished, the airport can hold 70million passengers, with 5.5 million in ETB and 1.5 million in WTB. The terminal building totally covers 900,000 square meters, includes ETB (180,000 m2) and WTB (720,000m2).

Phase 1 of ETB Project, including T3a Terminal Building, the Third Runway and relevant supporting facilities, will begin to be constructed in the first half of next year and expected to be finished in 2015. The scale of construction covers 470,000 square meters; and phase 2, including T3b Terminal Building, the Fourth Runway and relevant supporting facilities, is expected to begin in 2020.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is one of top 100 world airports, and ranks 9th in China. It is said that there are 11 airports reaching an annual throughout of 50 million passengers, which are located in New York, Chicago, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is expected to catch up with these airports 10 years later.
